Pantherella have been producing high quality men's socks in Leicester, England for almost 70 years, and still manufacture exclusively in the United Kingdom.
Originally named Midland Hosiery Mills and established as a ladies' hosiery factory, it would be some years before the Pantherella brand was to evolve. Pantherella has always bucked the trend, from its heyday in 1937 when its competitors were churning out bulky, bland men's socks, with very little in the way of choice, let alone comfort.
Indeed, there was widespread scepticism when Pantherella's maverick founder, Mr Louis Goldschmidt, speculated that there would be a potential for producing lighter weight products for men. Undaunted, and despite the high costs, Louis eventually persuaded local machine makers P.A. Bentley to make a special sock machine; this fierce perseverance would pay dividends later when Pantherella's competitors finally caught on. But by this time, Pantherella had set a standard of excellence second to none.
